Cost depends on the size of the room, the condition of the existing walls and whether it’s a skim over sound plaster or a full re-plaster. Skimming a single bedroom ceiling is a smaller job than re-skimming a whole through-lounge. Every quote is fixed and itemised after we’ve seen the room, so there are no surprises.
Skimming applies a thin 2–3mm finishing coat over walls that are already sound. Re-plastering means removing failed plaster back to the brick and building it back up with a base coat before skimming. We’ll tell you honestly which your walls actually need.
Fresh plaster usually needs three to seven days to dry fully, longer in cold or damp conditions. It turns from dark brown to an even pale pink when ready. We recommend a thinned mist coat first so the paint bonds rather than peels.
Yes. We regularly skim or over-board artex ceilings for a flat, modern finish. Sound artex can be skimmed directly; loose areas are prepared first, and any pre-2000 coating is treated with appropriate care.
